The Smile

Making an open mouth doll is not that difficult.  You may have to adjust the pattern you are using for the head, but that is a really simple matter.  We will discuss this later.
The downward smile has upturned ends.  This is one of the most comm types of a smile.  The bottom lip curves up but the top lip curves down.
The down turned smile is one of the most happy smiles.  This smile is a grin or a whole mouth smile, and is often the most uncontrolled of all smiles.  Or one of the most controlled smiles when one wants to put on a happy face for the camera!
This is not the smile that most people make.  Some do, but usually it is only an amused smile or a bemused smile.  The sharp upward turn of the smile should begin early or you will end up with the first smile in the diagram.  Subtly is the key in creating a smile.
This smile is the downturned smile.  Shape the upper lip like a bow with a dip in the center.  The lower lip is like a crescent moon turned on its side.
The teeth?  That is all in the painting and shading of the mouth.  We will get to it!
