The lips are a simple form. The lips are created by gently curving lines to create an upper and lower lip. the upper lip gently overhangs the bottom lip. the curves are subtle, but the lines are bold lines to create an attitude or mood.
The upper lips curve out.
Lower lips curve in and up.
Bot the upper and lower lip indent toward each other.
When painting the lips, remember that the light plays more on the bottom lip. The top lip is more in the shadow of the nose
The lower lip is lighter. Therefore it appears fuller.
The top lip extends beyond the lower lip
The lips come in all shapes and sizes. Each creates an expression, and often times reflects genetics and ethnicity.
The color of the lips also dictates a mood, a personality, and an attitude. The lips can say so much in your doll, don't think that a lazy M and a bowed lower lip is all you can do. Later we will discuss scuplting in the lips to give them dimension, and here, it all important how you draw and color the lips.
