Circumstance
Nothing influences so much as the circumstances in our lives... our circumstance seems to dictate our moods, our residences, our ability to do things, our ability to experience the given moment.  It is the same with our dolls.

When you create you dolls, use your imagination and try and put into your dolls how you feel about what is happening around you.  Great therapy and good fodder for fabric.

You can use all the tips and tricks to create circumstance.  Colors, moods, thoughts, imagination, vision...you name it.

For example try and make a doll that will portray what it would feel like to be swimming in a pool filled with sharks.  No matter the costume, no matter the character, put them in a shark filled pool.  Imagine being a mother who has just had enough, kids clinging, shrieking, the phone ringing and the pot boiling over, what would that look like?
For every circumstance in our lives there is a doll waiting to be born.  It can be joyous, sad, tragic and angry.  You can show it to your friends, keep it as a reminder for yourself...it is a healing process.  The doll is you ability to say what you feel without using your voice.  Let the doll speak for you.

Try seeing what these phrases bring to mind....

Up against the wall....between a rock and a hard place...happy as a lark....down in the dumps....high as a kite....down and out.... this is a fine kettle of fish I am in now....they conjure up so many images.

They can be translated into a hundred dolls, and each will be different.
Circumstance is a powerful innovator and initiator.  If you were on a desert island and wanted to make a doll you could.  If you were loose in a fabric shop for a day you could make a doll.  If you were just about anywhere, with anything at your disposal you could make a doll, and that doll would reflect your circumstance.....
Use your circumstances to bolster your imagination and creativity.  Use your humor to translate your feelings and lighten the mood.... And remember, always....there but for the grace of God go I...or better yet, there go I by the grace of God.
