There are lots of dyes you can use to dye mohair, but I use only one method.
I place the dye solution, about 2 tablespoonsful into a plastic zip lock bag, I add the hair to the bag and squish it around.   When I get the desired color, and most often if the mohair is not washed, or not unrolled it will be a lovely gradient color, complete with its own highlights, I cut one corner of the bag open and squeeze out the excess liquid .  Then I unzip the bag and put the hair on paper towels to further drain it.  If I am in a hurry, I use my blow dryer on it, if not I pat it dry and let it air dry.  If it has been dyed in a long hank, then I will open it out and let it dry flat.  If it is the curly mohair, I usually just leave it alone, and the dye, until it is dry, will continue to darken the hair in places for an even more dramatic effect.

What Dyes to Use...

I have used just about all of the brands out there.  Rit works well.  Procion dyes are great, but expensive.  Food coloring can be mixed in various densities of color.  I have never used Kool Aid....  I have used left over Easter Egg dye.  I love that result.  And it is organic...for the most part...and the vinegar smell goes away when it is dry if you spritz it with Febreze or some other product to take odors out of fabrics.

Mohair is a natural fiber and takes the dye well.
