Hair can be any color, fiber or non fiber you choose. You can make hair from just about anything you have laying around. Hair can be painted on, rooted in, sewed on, or glued on. It can be made of leaves, flowers, alluded to with wisps coming out of a turban, or peeking from under a hat. You will find a place to start by using the navigation bar. I have noticed that hair is a big issue for a lot of doll makers, lately. The pictures I have been getting show me that hair is one of the most telling details on a doll, and it is a good barometer for examples.
Some have the concept of hair down...they see it in perspective, others tend to overdo the hair. A great hairstyle can add to your doll's overall charm and allure, but too much hair takes away from the doll. The eye tends to travel to te most prominant part of a composition and if it is the hair, the other elements of your doll can get lost in all that hair.
Here is the same old same old that you hear all the time from me. When adding hair to your doll, look in the mirror, do it on a good hair day! See how your hair is just part of your make up, it is not the whole of your face and head. Look at pictures and see that the hair is a compliment not a center stage affair....One of the biggest judging points in competition is balance, and if the hair overwhelms the doll, then the judges take off points, sometimes it can be the difference in winning a competition and not. When it comes to hair, more is not always better. Keep the hair in proportion to the doll's whole concept. remember you are working in small scale and getting just the right amount of hair makes a lot of difference in the impact your doll has. Learn to give the doll a hair cut, learn to style the hair so that it has a natural, pleasing look that is in line with the rest of the doll. When I look at a doll, I do not want my eye to be drawn to the hair because of the amount of it on the head, I want it to be drawn there because the style compliments the doll.
